Synopsis
Part 1
The typical response to unannounced, unwanted changes is to resist and attempt to go back — The Lord’s hand is seen in the topics selected for this program at the start of the year — Our desire to keep the status quo is rooted in our design to operate out of habit — We all have the habit to live within our own worlds and forget about everything we have — Temple attendance can help us have a broader perspective, but only if we give ourselves to what we do — Our habits to resist change influence us to think we can “fix things” when it’s more effective to accept reality and embrace the change — When life knocks us down, what approach do we take in response? — We must engage the right actions for us, which are more than just the standards — There are general principles that can help us each find our “right things”
Part 2
Our host provides more details behind the story told in the monologue of his job layoff — He entered a deep depression which ended when he counseled with the Lord — Counsel with the Lord is very easy advice — Too often we approach God in prayer with a laundry list of what we need in the expectation He’ll give it to us — Counseling with the Lord means having a conversation through prayer and the Spirit about what next step you need to take — It’s an iterative process where He gives you a little at a time as you take the little steps He directs for you and you receive feedback on your own ideas for next steps — Our host uses the experience of the brother of Jared to illustrate (see Ether 2:16-25) and then connects that back to his story from the monologue — We have extensive support on both sides of the veil
Part 3
If you want an A-class life, apply the “A” formula: Attitude + Action = Achievement — We need an attitude of faith — We must take that attitude and do the things that will move us forward — In the end, results are what matter — To get results, keep applying the “A” formula — We need to stop looking outward for the cause of our poor results and start looking inward — Own your life — Our host recounts the pivotal moment in his life when he began to own his life — No one makes decisions in a vacuum — Everyone decides based on input we provide them — Owning your life unleashes the power you have within you — If you feel stuck, consider starting over, counseling with the Lord, and applying the “A” formula
