Synopsis
Part 1
Have you noticed how singles get negative around holidays? — Some sisters skip church on Mother’s Day (and brethren on Father’s Day) — Many of our sensitivities around holidays relate to issues of identity, which are related to the way we think — 95% of our emotions come from our self-talk, which comes from how we think — When you change the way you think, you change your world — Ministering will change the culture — Many difficulties LDS singles face stem from ways of thinking promoted by a culture centered on what singles by definition don’t have — A new culture will lead to new thinking which leads to a new reality — We will need new ways of thinking to carry us through the transition to a new culture — Many of our negative emotions come from the way we think
Part 2
You need to understand how you were designed to function in order to get the most from your life — We must give our all to the right things for us, which is more than just the standards — The Lord wants us to be joyful in life, and he’ll help us find that when we partner with Him — Understand how habit is how you are designed to function, and you can enjoy life more — The Law of the Harvest mirrors how focus becomes reality — Focusing on what we have leads to a reality of abundance — If you want to exude confidence and be more attractive, then you need to focus on the positive aspects of life — We are not our circumstances — If you want to marry a person, look past the circumstance to see the person — Our host speaks the unmentionable three letters together — Any two people can make it work, but some require more effort to make it work than others
Part 3
We can change how we think through action — How host addresses the common advice many leaders to give to singles to put more service in their lives — Most leaders miss the emotional connection with the advice they recommend (like get more service) — Happiness is not just doing the right things but giving our all to the right things for us — We need to give love with our service and not just go through the motions or check an item off a list — God has given everyone people in their lives to love — The emotions that create challenges for us as singles are inside us, so we need to seek changes inside and not outside ourselves
